- OVERVIEW -
Introducing
the "POWERSAIL 20m"
a design breakthrough realising the dream of many a yachtsman.
For the first time ever, a luxury, high performance, 28 tonne cruising
yacht that amazingly has the capability of not only sailing but also motoring
at 18 knots.
The "POWERSAIL
20m" was born from a
concept by the company’s director, Chris Redding, after 50 years of coastal
and blue water sailing experience. This concept was refined into
practical reality by the creative talents of Craig Loomes Design Group,
winner of the International Superyacht Society award in 1998.
The
unique performance of
"POWERSAIL
20m" has been made
possible by two design patents. Firstly, a twin rudder system that overcomes
the tendency to stern squat when propelling yachts well beyond their hull
speed. Secondly, a propulsion unit that efficiently transmits via a 900mm
diameter, 5 bladed propeller, the required 800hp, with the ability to then
retract into the hull eliminating all drag when sailing.
Another distinctive feature
for the "POWERSAIL 20m"
is the achievement of full headroom on two deck levels. This together
with a beam of 6.4m gives the interior space previously only found in yachts
longer than 26m. Skilful utilisation of this interior enables all three
staterooms to have walk-round queen size berths & en suites with separate
showers.
The "POWERSAIL
20m" lift keel’s draft
variation of 1.5 – 4m not only provides exceptional windward performance
but allows the comfort and security of protected shallow anchorages.
The "POWERSAIL
20m" has also been designed
to be fundamentally unsinkable by the use of 22m³ of closed cell foam
enclosed in the vessel’s bilge compartments
